Kuschty Rye Ergot
Kuschty Rye Ergot is a performing and recording experimental/avant rock collective led by Washington D.C. area multi-instrumentalist and vocalist John Stanton. The collective is considered to be part of the Washington D.C. experimental music community profiled in the Washington City Paper.
Inspired by artists such as Ronnie Lane, Peter Hammill/Van der Graaf Generator, Dome, The INCredible String Band and many others, Kuschy Rye Ergot's music is primarily improvisational in nature, though some performances have featured more structured material. The aim of the collective is to merge elements of psychedelia, acid folk or folk psych, field recordings, musique concrete and other forms of music.
The collective got its start in August 4, 2007 with a debut performance at Clavius Productions 611 Florida Ave. residence/performance space, where the duo of Stanton and Scott Verrastro performed a lengthy version of the Ronnie Lane song "April Fool".
Since then, the collective (with an ever changing lineup and growing number of collaborators) has performed 13 shows and issued 3 recordings.
Stanton also performs as a member of Washington D.C. / Philadelphia based avant psychedelic improv band Kohoutek.
