Kostas Loudovikos

Κostas Loudovikos is an intellectual personality, painter and author at the same time, a unique case in the area of modern orthodox iconography as well as in the wider artistic milieu of our times.

He is member of the Archive of Greek Artists at the Contemporary Art Center of the Institution DESTE. His work has been prized in International Competitions and International Exhibitions.

The artistic work of Kostas Loudovikos combines in an excellent way fertile features of the ancient pagan and Christian iconography tradition, color and design values, survivals of the past, as well as features of the most modern stylistic trends. It is not so difficult to see that beyond the figurative features there are used abstractive types, surrealistic references and abstractive, as well as post-modern allusive subjects, which prove the richness of the form-plastic fantasy of the artist.

In the collection of his works, the talented and genuine creator attempts and manages to combine the ancient Greek tradition, Byzantine and more general Christian roots, and even the most modern and atypical quests.

The style of his painting

In his form-plastic vocabulary, Loudovikos moves with ease in the established traditional ways, as well in ways of abstract trends, even in passages of modern experimental materials, techniques and formulations. But in all cases there are the clear personal features which play a definitive role in his work.

In many works of Kostas Loudovikos there are combined forms of monument scale, together with miniature formulations and features with any kind of symbolic extensions, fertilized by known representations, the Stone Age art of caves and generally of the primitives. Especially the prolific and unexpected symbolisms of various elements, together with post-surrealistic formulations are combined in ways which remind types of the American dynamic painting- Action Painting- and especially formulations of Jackson Pollock. In the haloes of Saints there can bee seen subjects of various cultures and of various cultural areas, whilst in his other efforts the extractive together with the elliptic, often undefined features, life-form and plasmatic forms, formulations with the features of the School of Fantastic Art of Vienna, together with other expressionistic features, complete the content of his works.

In other characteristic paintings of Loudovikos a special impression is given by the combination of the geometrical abstraction and traditional representative types, whilst areas of lyric abstraction are joined with the use of Pop Art types. Separation of his painting surface and modern neo-representative elements speak with traditional types and meet in the world of Graffiti, of Comic and of Street art, of Animation and of Video art, through new personal combinations and together with new personal and non typical elements and all the above proves the multi-sided character of quests of the artist.

The art of painting of Kostas Loudovikos is dominating with the fantastic extent of his inventions, his personal immediacy and the truth of his formulations.
