Kham football team
The Kham football team is a representative of the region of Kham. Until the 1950s it has been the regional selection for association football. Later the team went forth in the Tibetan diaspora and occasionally as an historical team in China.
Background
The selection of Kham has been inactive for decades, It is not longer considered as such but has in its era caused polemics, comparable with the Tibet national football team since the last decade of the 20th century. Many of the former football players later collaborated with the Tibet team.
The National Stadium has been a eye catching stadium for its pure Tibetan design. The stadium was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76) in China. Afterwards the stadium has been rebuilt and was converted into the Stadium of Chamdo.
Since then the selection is known as the Regional Tibetan Selection of Kham, a semi-prof team that participates in annual tournaments between different historical regions of China. Some of the footballers play in the Hohhot Black Horse, a professional team in the Chinese Football League.
