Kestrel Trust
Founded in 1970, the Kestrel Trust is a land conservation organization which works to conserve farmland, forests, fields and rivers from development in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. Like most land trusts, the Kestrel Trust depends on private donors to leverage state money. By working with landowners, town conservation commissions, state agencies, and other land trusts Kestrel has conserved thousands of acres in the region they serve.1
5K Run for Farmland
The Kestrel Trust is currently organizing their first annual 5K run and 2 Mile walk as a fundraiser event for farmland. The 2009 race is being held as a joint event to commemorate Hadley's 350th year anniversary while benefiting Kestrel. This race is going to be held on Sunday October 18 and will follow a route along preserved farmland in Hadley. The race will have prizes for the 1st through 3rd place of each age group, special prizes for local runners as well as participating college students. This race will be followed by music, food, and apple cider on the Hadley Town Common.
