KBOP-CA
KBOP-CA is a low-power Class A television station in San Diego, California, broadcasting locally in analog on UHF channel 43 as an independent Spanish-language station. Founded December 5, 1990, the station is owned by Commercial Broadcasting Corp. and operated by the NBC Universal / LIN Television joint-venture, from the facilities of KNSD, the local NBC affiliate.
Programming
Much of the programming for KBOP-CA originates from Los Angeles Spanish independent station KWHY-TV, including its newscasts, Noticias 22, weekdays at 5 PM and weekends at 7 PM and 10 PM. However, KBOP-CA also airs its own newscasts, Noticias Mi San Diego TV 43, weekdays at 7 PM and 10 PM. The station airs Spanish-language broadcasts of San Diego Padres baseball games during the season and San Diego Chargers pre-season football games.
KBOP to close September 1
According to the San Diego Union Tribune (1), it was announced in July 2007 that KNSD will close down KBOP, effective September 1. Its news programs, Noticias Mi San Diego and Otro Vistazo, will move to KNSD -- the former will be seen weekdays at 4AM; the latter on Sundays at 5AM. KNSD will also continue to maintain KBOP's website, at http://www.misdtv.com/ .
The reason for this closure is due to the station's limited availability -- on one low-power station and on digital cable, while the other stations have analog cable coverage, a full-powered signal, and/or several low-powered transmitters.
It is unknown what programming will be seen on KBOP after September 1.
