Kasun Ubayasiri

Dr Kasun Ubayasiri is a Sri Lankan born Australian PhD in media and political violence, and has conducted extensive research on the role of cyber-media in [...] conflicts.His doctoral thesis titled : “Media, Tamil Tigers, [...] and the Internet: The cyber interface between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and mainstream media,” focuses on the use of cyber media in Sri Lanka’s thirty year civil war.

Before commencing his academic career he worked as a journalist in Sri Lanka covering political and military issues including the civil war between the government and the Tamil Tigers. He has worked as a journalist for a number of Sri Lankan and Australian newspapers and continue to work as a freelance photo-journalist and documentary photographer.

Kasun Ubayasiri completed his primary and secondary education at S.Thomas' College in Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka and completed his higher education at the Central Queensland University and the Queensland University of Technology in Australia.
