Karlsruhe Cricket Club
The Karlsruhe Cricket Club was established as the first official cricket club in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2009. It is Registered with the German Federal Cricket Board DCB. It started officially participating in the League conducted by DCB (Deutsche Cricket Bund) from 2010 season.
- It has all the basic facilities needed to play cricket. Batting Practice sessions are done in nets. It hopes to acquire a few bowling machine very soon. The turf shall be ready to play by mid March. It shall host home matches for Karlsruhe Cricket Club.
History of Cricket in Karlsruhe
The history of cricket is not that old in karlsruhe, but there are rumors that people did play some cricket here in this city around 60’s. The first known cricket match played here was in 94. People from sub-continent played with taped ball (tennis ball wrapped with electric tape). It didn’t last long as there were very few people who could play cricket. Cricket again took momentum in 1997 when Mubasher Razzaq (Zaffar) brought many Pakistanis and Indians to started playing cricket together.
New millennium brought another boost of students from South Asian Region to Germany, hence Karlsruhe too. Many could play cricket and they started it . Ibrahim and Abis would bring students together and play in Uni-Forum , the old stadium in front of University Library.
People in Karlsruhe played cricket just for fun. No team ever participated in any major cricketing event in Germany. This changed when Waheed arrived to Karlsruhe. He is a magnificant cricketer who has had enough experience in professional level cricket both in Germany and in England. He with Waqar, who too had been playing cricket in Germany for a long time, proposed to start a cricketing club. With very appreciated inputs from Waheed, Waqar, Mubasher Razzaq (Zaffar), Qamar, Abis, Ibrahim and many friends Karlsruhe Cricket Club was born in 2009.
First recorded match played in Karlsruhe (photo above) was played in 2009 at KCC-Coguars ground against Cosmopolitan Cricket Club, Mannheim.
