Kadiyan

Kadiyan is a Jat Kshatriya gotra found in the state of Haryana, Delhi and in Western Uttar Pradesh in Northern India.

Location

Kadian, Kadyan, Kadiyan are alternate spellings for a clan of the JAT Community Ror community. The Kadiyan clan has three villages among the Ror. These are Katlaheri in the Nardak region, Gyana Majra in Uttar Pradesh and possibly Narkatari near ThanesarSo far 48 villages of Kadiyan have been found in these three states. From Turkey they moved to Iran, via Iraq and invaded Iran. From Iran with the Persian forces they had travelled around 1,500 years back to India. They invaded with the Persians on the western Punjab front, which is now known as Pakistan. Then they marked their presence in Qadiyan (a place near Barnala in Punjab) named after Kadiyans, which has been found to be the first place in India where they had settled. Later on they travelled to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and South Punjab (now known as Haryana after partition from Punjab in 1966).

Origin

Second theory is based on a mythical story that Kadyan is a Pali version of the Sanskrit Katyayana (Katyayan to Katyan to Kadyan). Tradition has it that Rishi Vishvamitra had many sons including two by the names of Kat and Achchil. The descendants of Kat were called Katyayan and over time it got corrupted to Kadyan.

The above stated descent from Rishi Vishvamitra makes Kadian a Suryavanshi clan. This fits in with their place among the Ror, who claim descent from the solar house of Ikshvaku. This is the same Ikshvaku whose descendants include the mighty Raghu and Sri Rama of Ayodhya. In Arabic, kadiyan means king and it could possibly be a memory from the times of the Akkadian empire.
