K1RK: The Falmouth Amateur Radio Association

The amateur radio call sign K1RK was originally held by Frank Kohout, Jr. who was a member of the Falmouth Amateur Radio Association(FARA). He died in the late 1980s from Hodgkin's Disease. The elegance of his callsign gives brevity and clarity to on-air contacts, as the morse code characters for this callsign are easy and fast to send, and hard to mistake while receiving. Frank's interactions with club members was inspiring, as he didn't shy from acknowledging his illness when making an acquaintance. His dedication to public service through amateur radio was exemplary. Frank's participation in FARA helped inspire growth in the club, and FARA has become one of the largest Amateur Radio clubs in New England.

FARA adopts K1RK's callsign

FARA obtained his family's permission to make his callsign an official club callsign, and continues to use it along with other club callsigns (W1HQH, K1AIR, W1NOB) for many Public Service and operating events, including Amateur Radio Field Day, The Falmouth Road Race, and the Cape Cod Marathon.
