Junie Allen Browning (born May 12, 1985), is an American mixed martial artist. He was a cast member of SpikeTV's The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir.
Biography
Junie Browning was born in Florida and raised in Kentucky. He attended Bourbon County High School where he competed in football and the . division of wrestling. Since the age of four, Browning began sparring with his brother to train for combat sports. Browning trained with Four Seasons MMA under Mike O'Donnell; then moving to Las Vegas, NV and is now training with Xtreme Couture. As of November 3, 2008, Junie is a part of the Xtreme Couture team. Junie's younger brother Rob Browning fights for the Lexington-based organization American Fight League.
The Ultimate Fighter
Junie was a fighter on The Ultimate Fighter reality show. In his elimination bout, he defeated Jose Aguilar by TKO; not answering the bell for the second round. He then was the first pick of the Lightweights for Team Mir. Junie Browning was also successful in his quarterfinal match-up with Rolando Delgado, winning by decision after 3 rounds, dropping and nearly finishing Delgado in the second round. While Junie trained with team Mir, he repeatedly stated that other members on the team, namely future opponent Dave Kaplan, refused to train with him due to his intensity during training. During an interview, he stated, "I think I've actually gotten worse since I came here." Browning also struggled with his anger management while on the show. He was warned twice for actions on the show due to his alcoholism and anger problems; throwing glass cups at both Kyle Kingsbury and Shane Primm. Junie was defeated on the last episode before the finals by Efrain Escudero. He ended the show by promising to be back as a fighter after originally saying he "should flip burgers".
Ultimate Fighting Championship
On December 13, 2008, Junie took on fellow Team Mir castmate Dave Kaplan on the main card of The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale; winning by armbar. Browning and Kaplan both won $25,000 for fight of the night. Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg repeatedly stated how Browning's striking and footwork had improved dramatically since his appearance on The Ultimate Fighter season 8. As a result, Browning is currently in talks with Dana White, negotiating a contract, albeit with heavy stipulations, which will allow him to become an official UFC fighter.
Browning's second appearance in the Ultimate Fighting Championship octagon came at UFC Fight Night 18 where he took on Cole Miller. The fight had bad blood before the fight even started, when Miller began talking AbOUT Browning's skills in mixed martial arts during an interview held by ufc.com. The day before the fights at the weigh ins, Miller got in the face of Browning, Dana White was forced to pull the two apart. After White pulled them apart, Browning reached over and gave a slight tap on Miller's butt.
The fight between Cole Miller and Junie Browning ended quickly. After Browning was caught by Cole Miller's straight right punch, he attempted a take down. Miller met the takedown, and clinched Junie's neck in a guillotine choke. Immediately after Miller got the win, he leaned down and yelled in Junie's face, "Who's overrated now?!"
