Josh Thomas (news anchor)

Josh Thomas is a weekend Anchor/Reporter for WFLA-TV News Channel 8.

Early career

Josh Thomas was born and raised in Chicago and graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1978 with a Bachelors Degree in Radio/TV with a minor in Journalism. He began his broadcast career as a reporter in Rockford IL., and has worked as a Weekend Anchor/Reporter in Peoria, IL, Weekend Anchor/Reporter in New Haven, Connecticut, Reporter/Substitute Anchor in Atlanta, Weekend Anchor/Reporter in Baltimore, MD and Primary Anchor in Birmingham, AL, before joining WFLA, News Channel 8 as Weekend co-anchor with Nerissa Prest in 2003.

Personal life

  • Thomas has won numerous awards for reporting in Atlanta and Baltimore and was named the best anchor in Alabama by the Associated Press in 1997.
  • He is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
  • Josh has also taken part in seminars at the Poynter Institute as a student and visiting faculty member.
  • He also appeared as himself in "The Punisher (2004 film)" that was filmed in Tampa.
  • Josh also served on the Board of Directors Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Maryland.
  • Thomas lives in New Tampa and has a teen-age son who aspires to go into broadcasting.
  • His interests are sports and jazz.
