Biography
Born in Texarkana, Texas, in 1974, Jonathan Patrick Lamas is an American journalist and author. He began his career working for Car and Driver and Road & Track magazines in 1998. It was during this time that he completed his first book, Sanctuary of Expression. According to past interviews with the author, he arrived in New York City in August of 1998 with nothing more than "a backpack, a box, and a dream." He is said to have wandered the streets of Manhattan each evening, soaking up all the city had to offer. "I would often walk all night. Sometimes I'd take the late night ferry out to Staten Island before catching the 28th & 7th Ave. train back to my apartment in Brooklyn. It was a one bedroom I shared with three other people."
During his time at Hachette Filipacchi Magazines he worked regularly on Car and Driver, Road & Track, George Magazine, Premiere Magazine, Cycle World, Big Twin, and Flying magazines, conducting interviews and functioning as content producer for the publications. "Those were good times for me," says Jonathan. "Working around such a great group of people. All I can say now, looking back, is what a way to start your career. I was surrounded by the best of the best."
In 2000 he began working for The Record (Bergen County) in Hackensack, NJ as Senior Content Producer and a features writer reviewing local nightclubs in the NYC metro area. He was also the producer of the weekly Paul Dottino Giant report hosted by friend and colleague Paul Dottino, and collaborated with North Jersey Media Group to produce the Ground Zero Spirit Web site after the events of 9/11.
His second book, Out On My Own, was published in 2003. This book was a follow up to his first, and featured bits and pieces of his life, transformed into poetry and prose. His style is known for imagery and emotion, with such lines as, "So, on this cold winter's night, in the heart of Manhattan, I finally made it to the Rainbow Room, such a view. And Kaylee Marie was there with me, holding my hand along the way. The little girl, unseen, unheard, always with me, for all time."
He spent more than 15 years of his life as a performing musician, his latest project with the Hollywood-based rock band MOJO WISDOM.
In 2005 Lamas played a bit part in the independent film MUTE, directed by Melissa Joan Hart.
