The website was founded on February 8, 2001 by two teenagers based out of Toronto, Canada. The website records over 6 million unique visitors per month and over 20 million page views (according to ComScore Media Metrix).

On July 5, 2005 Jokaroo entered into a partnership with America Online to provide user generated content.

On June 26, 2007 Jokeroo entered into a partnership with Quebecor Media, partent company of Canoe.ca to provide user generated content.
