Childhood and early career

John W Spengler (born in Longview, Texas), spend most of his childhood growing up in Fort Worth, Texas. Spengler learned to play the piano and the guitar at a very young age, and began playing in bands in early junior high. His first band, Transparent Reflections, lasted through most of his high school years, culminating with a win in a North Texas Fine Arts Competition over the hard rock band Flyleaf.

After graduating high school, Spengler started another project called Stories of London with Nashville recording artist Levi Weaver. The band lasted for two years, releasing two independent EPs, and receiving regional success. After Stories of London disbanded in 2005, Spengler relocated to Arlington, Texas to begin pursuing a solo career. Spengler spent 2006 writing and learning to play the drums and bass guitar, and started recording demos for his rock project It is Well. After months of writing and recording, Spengler released a self recorded, self engineered, self produced EP entitled The Bed Afflictions EP. The EP was released to iTunes and won favorable reviews from The Dallas Observer, as well as from GarageBand.com. The third track from the EP, entitled And I Don't was also featured in the film The Many Strange Stories of Triangle Woman

In Summer of 2008, after numerous attempts to establish a stable backing band for It is Well, Spengler abandoned the rock project and began to work on an acoustic album. Throughout 2009, Spengler wrote and released demos of new songs on his MySpace and iLike pages, and in November 2009, recorded Something To Believe In, an acoustic album recorded by Michael Havens with Maximedia Studios. Soon to be released on iTunes, Spengler has since started traveling throughout the United States promoting both the album and his music as a solo artist.
