John Swann (soccer)

John Swann (born September 27, 1979) is a fomer American soccer defender from Brownsburg, Indiana.

Playing career

Swann attended Brownsburg High School of Brownsburg, Indiana, then played collegiate soccer at Indiana University. He was named first-team All-American in 2002. After Swann graduated, the Indiana Blast of USISL drafted Swann in the first round of the 2002 A-League college draft.1 In January 2003, D.C. United of Major League Soccer drafted Swann in the 5th round (41st overall) of the SuperDraft. However, he injured his ankle in pre-season training and D.C. United released him to return to Indiana for rehab. While in Indiana, he signed with the Indiana Blast of USISL and played sixteen games with the team before undergoing ankle surgery. In 2007, Swann signed with the expansion Indianapolis Braves of the National Premier Soccer League.

Coaching career

He coached for the local soccer club Westside United, leading his team to second place in the State Cup. Swann has since moved his coaching career to Carmel United Soccer Club and led his team to back-to-back State titles.
