John H. Vandenberg
John Henry Vandenberg (December 18, 1904 – June 3, 1992) was the ninth Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) between 1961 and 1972. He also served as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles between 1972 and 1976 and a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy between 1976 and 1978. He was designated an emeritus general authority in 1978.
Vandenberg was born in Ogden, Utah to a Latter-day Saint immigrant couple from the Netherlands. As a young man, he attended Weber Academy and in 1925 began a mission to the Netherlands, where he met his future wife, a young Dutch convert named Ariena Stok. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on 10 June 1930 and were the parents of two daughters.
