Jobaphiles
Jobaphiles.com is an online marketplace for college students and recent graduates to meet with prospective employers. Jobaphiles was founded in March 2008 by two Williams and one Brown student who wanted to build a new type of e-college-job marketplace where out-of-state and out-of-area students studying in the Boston area could get involved and share their talents with the local community while earning some cash for college. The first beta of the website, www.jobaphiles.com, launched in August 2008.
Jobaphile users can find employment in either one of two ways: participating in a job-auction or posting a service. In a job-auction, employers post jobs and users bid for them by posting their qualifications, asking wages, and reasons for wanting the particular job. Ultimately the most competitive bid wins. In posting a service, users detail their skills and expertise and Jobaphiles connects them with parties interested in their services. This service helps students and grads market their talent to the larger community.
History
Jobaphiles was founded in the spring of 2008 by Ben Herila, Thai Nguyen and Scott Tamura. The founders traveled far to attend their respective colleges and are keenly aware of the difficulties college students face in finding a job and selling a skill in an unfamiliar community. Attempting to bridge the communication gaps between local employers, residents, and students the trio created Jobaphiles.com. In doing so they hope to create a more vibrant and inclusive community.
2008
The first "alpha" version of the website launched in mid 2008 servicing only students of Boston, Tufts, and Suffolk University. The second "beta" version of the website was launched in early January 2009 to the remaining schools in the Greater-Boston-Area.
Operations
Jobaphiles is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The organization currently has nine employees.
