Jeyapaul David Swamidawson

The Rt. Rev. S Jeyapaul David is the Bishop in Tirunelveli, Church of South India since 21st November 1999. He was born to Mr. Swamidawsan and Mrs. Mercy Swamidawsan on 11th August 1944 at Tuticorin. He had his schooling at Tuticorin and obtained his B.A. degree from V.O.C. College, Tuticorin. He did B.D. course at Serampore College, Serampore.

Rt. Rev. S Jeyapaul David is married to Violet and the couple have 3 daughters and a son. The eldest daughter, Mrs. Joyce Reginald M.Com., B.Ed., M.Phil., is a lecturer at Bishop Appasamy College, Coimbatore. The second daughter, Mrs. Newin Basker M.A., B.Ed., is a Teacher with Mary Sargent Girls Higher Secondary School, Palayamkottai. Their son, Rev. J. Justin B.A., B.Miss . - married to Shobana Joslin MA(Ling) - is a Pastorate Chairman in Mela Sivanthipuram Pastorate and their youngest daughter, Mrs. Mercy Patricia Justus lives at Perumalpuram.

He continued his higher education in Theology at St John's College, Nottingham, U.K. from September 1978 to July 1979.

The Rt. Rev. S Jeyapaul David was ordained as a Presbyter on 30th March 1969 at St. Patrick’s Church, Tuticorin. During 1982 to 1985 he has worked as Organizing Secretary of National Missionary Society and during 1990 to 1992 he was General Secretary of Indian Missionary Society (IMS). He also worked as a Professor at Yavatmal College for Leadership Training during 1994 and 1997.

The Rt. Rev. S Jeyapaul David was consecrated as Bishop in Tirunelveli on 21st November 1999 at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Palayamkottai.

Rt. Rev. S Jeyapaul David was elected as President of National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) in 2004.
