Jetix (Russia)

Jetix is a children's television channel owned by Disney-ABC Television Group broadcast in Russia and other CIS countries (except Moldova<ref name="Moldova to get Disney Channel Romania>Disney Channel Romania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

). It was previously known as Fox Kids. It is broadcast simultaneously in two languages (using DVB audio technology): Russian and English. Advertising is shown in Russian.

Jetix Russia is broadcast in 24/7 mode by all cable and satellite TV operators (such as NTV Plus), with the normal Jetix available till 23.00 (MSK), and Jetix Max till the morning.

Jetix Max is a night programming block featuring more teen-oriented shows such as: Naruto, Shaman King, H2O: Just Add Water, Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive and Transformers Animated.

Disney rebrand

After Disney XD successfully launched on February 13, 2009 in the US, the Disney-ABC Television Group re-branded Jetix France to Disney XD on April 1, 2009 and it was expected to be rolled out to other European territories in 2009. Recently, however, Disney announced that the Jetix channel in certain countries (namely Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria) will be renamed to The Disney Channel, marking that channel's first introduction in these countries. The change happened on September 19, 2009. Disney Channel Romania & Bulgaria broadcast as a single video feed with two audio channels.

The current Disney Channel has Serbian subtitles, it is also possible that the Disney Channel will be made available in Serbia as well.

Jetix Central and Eastern Europe was re branded as The Disney Channel from the 19th September 2009 according to a run of advertisements on the channel announcing the change.

Jetix Russia was based on Jetix (Central and Eastern Europe), but all things related to Disney were automatically replaced with Jetix promos,. Certain shows which then did not air on the regular Jetix CEE (W.I.T.C.H., Iggy Arbuckle) were part of the hour-and-a-half long programming block that replaced the Disney block. When Jetix CEE was changed to Disney Channel CEE, the Russian language transmission ceased. Jetix Russia, now as a separate channel, continues to exist for the time being.

Disney Channel Russia or a related Disney brand is expected to replace Jetix in 2010, as Disney phased out the Jetix name almost entirely in 2009. No date has been officially confirmed (though many rumours have circulated), but at the start of 2010 Jetix Russia started to air certain Disney-owned programs - the Russian version of As the Bell Rings (Приколы на переменке), Cars Toons and a Hannah Montana-related competition. After The Walt Disney Company bought all shares of Jetix Europe in early 2009, it now has complete control over this channel.
