Jelapang Interchange

Jelapang Interchange is a major interchange of the North-South Expressway Southern Route in Malaysia.

The old Jelapang toll plaza

The old Jelapang toll plaza will be demolished in 2008 to make a non-stop route across Ipoh. The decision to demolish both toll plazas were made as a result of accidents which happened at Jelapang toll plaza where most of them involved heavy vehicles. Since the toll plaza was opened in 28 September 1987, there were many accident cases at Jelapang toll plaza which involved heavy vehicles which had brake failures due to hard braking when proceeding downhill to the toll plaza.

Notable incidents

  • 11 December 2007 – Seven people were killed and 28 were injured in a collision between an express bus and a latex tanker at the Jelapang toll plaza in Ipoh, Perak.
