Jeff Christy (baseball)

Jeffrey Scott Christy (April 13, , ) is a catcher in the Minnesota Twins organization, currently assigned to their Triple-A affiliate Rochester Red Wings in the International League. He stands 6'1" and weighs 210 lbs., and has a brother and two sisters who are quadruplets.

High school

As a senior at Lincoln Southeast High School, he batted .430 with four home runs and 41 runs batted in. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 49th round of the MLB Draft, but chose instead to attend Barton County Community College.

College

As a freshman Jeff hit .333 with 5 home runs and 34 RBIs. As a sophomore in , he hit .390 with six home runs, and 45 RBIs. he threw out 40% of would-be base stealers and committed only one error in 375 chances, helping his team go 37-18 and a second place conference finish.

After a great junior college career, he transferred to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he was their starting catcher. In , he was part of the 2005 College World Series team. He set a school record with 64 starts behind the plate, batting .236 with 32 RBIs, only one home run and a team high twelve sacrifices. Jeff threw out 46% of the opposing base runners, and in the NCAA Tournament, he threw out 8 of 11 runners. He batted .293 in the Tournament, including .277 in the CWS. In the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft, Jeff was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round.

Minor league

In , Jeff began his professional career as a member of the Elizabethton Twins. with a .259 average. After little more than half a season at the rookie level, he was promoted to Class A Advanced Fort Myers on August 9. After only six games with the Fort Myers Miracle, he was promoted again to the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats, where he played in only two games, and went 0-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI. He attended the Twins' major league spring training camp, but was reassigned to minor league camp on April 1, 2009.
