January 19th incident
The January 19th incident (1·19事件) is a riot clash that occurred on January 19, 2010 between villagers in Yangshan County Guangdong People's Republic of China and the county government local police.
Incident
Huang Huo-sheng (黄伙生) in Tongru village opposed a pending eviction and demolition of his home. The police then went to arrest him, suspecting him of illegally manufacturing fire bombs.
During a riot up to 40 villagers clashed with more than 100 police officers who responded with non-lethal riot guns and tear gas. Two cars were destroyed, seven cars were damaged. Two police officers were injuried.
The local government found a barrel of gasoline and several sacks of empty bottles including 70 empty plastic water bottles. They also confiscated two bullets and three bullet shells.
Aftermath
Up to 10 people were injured in the clashes. Nine people were arrested for questioning of which six are male, three are female.
