Jane Starr Weils

Jane Starr Weils is a Self Taught artist whose work focuses on ancient cultures, myth and magick.

Art

Starr Weils' art is a combination of watercolor and colored pencil, often with many layers, and incorporating a gouache or ink. Color and symbolism both play important roles in Star Weils' work, which primarily focuses ancient cultures, myths and magick. Her love for the medieval era, as well as her own Celtic heritage, are often reflected in the subjects she chooses. Her work is known for being extremely detailed, each flower, insect, knot, color, etc. being chosen for a specific reason. Starr Weils has recently become involved in a number of related projects, including Secret Scent lockets and a series of figurines with Pacific Trading Company. Most recently she has signed on to design a series of labels for Long Island Meadery and to illustrate White Raven, a novel by Jennifer Carson.

Personal life

Jane Starr Weils was born in New Hampshire and has spent most of her adult life in the West, owning and operating an art several art galleries, first in Jerome and Sedona AZ then in Silver City, New Mexico. In 2000 Starr Weils relocated back east to Upstate New York, where she currently lives in a 104 year old farm house with a menagerie of cats, pigeons and her husband. She is involved in two reenactment groups, Norseland, and The Society for Creative Anachronism, and both influence her artwork greatly.
