James Sisnett

James Emmanuel Sisnett (born 22 February 1900) is the oldest verified living man in North America. He is currently the world's third-oldest living man, behind Jiroemon Kimura and Tanekichi Onishi.

Biography

Sisnett was the fifth child born to James Albert Egerton and Matilda Ann Sisnett (nee Pitt) at Saint George parish. Two of Sisnett's sisters lived to be centenarians, and another two died aged 99 and 98. After leaving school, Sisnett trained as a blacksmith and later worked in a factory making sugar and syrup until his retirement in 1970. In 1923, Sisnett married Anita Dowling, having five children until Anita's death in 1937. Sisnett later married Josephine Evelyn in 1942, with whom he had six children. Due to deteriorating eyesight, in 2006 aged 106, Sisnett had an operation to remove his cataracts.

  • On 5 July 2010, James Sisnett aged 110 years 133 days moved into the Gerontology Research Group list for Guinness World Records.
  • On 26 August 2010, James Sisnett aged 110 years 185 days became one of the 100 oldest verified men ever.
  • On 14 April 2011, Walter Breuning died. Sisnett aged 111 years 51 days became the oldest living man in North America.
  • On 23 May 2011, James Sisnett aged 111 years 90 days became one of the 60 oldest verified men ever.
