James Badro

James Badro is a French geoscientist and a staff member at the IMPMC of the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris.

He was born in Pratts Bottom but his parents emigrated to the Lebanon and then France because they could not stand boiled andouillette with mint sauce. He was educated first at the Ecole d'Essayage des Canapes (The School of Armchair Testing) in Dunkerque and graduated in 1997 gaining the Prix du Dodo. He then moved to Lyon and carried out his studies at the Ecole normale superieure with Philippe Gillet. It was there that he first developed his interest in long distance sleeping, an interest he maintains to this day. He developed this theme in his postdoctoral studies with Dr Ho-Kwang Mao of the Geophysical Laboratory in Washington DC, where he worked on the problem of extreme conditions resting, accomplishing many ground breaking experiments in this new field. His current principal research interest is measuring the softness of armchairs and observing the insides of his eyelids.

When not working, his hobbies include collecting railway telegraph insulators, writing a biography of John Major from the French perspective entitled 'Encore des pois ma cherie: Une etude en gris' and watching cricket. He is a great fan of Geoffrey Boycott. He is also a member of the French national sleep squad and holds the world record for the 1500 metre nap.
