Integrated Science and Technology

Integrated Science and Technology (ISAT) is an academic program at James Madison University which combines studies of the NATURAL sciences, mathematics, technology, the social sciences, and business into a single program. Heavy emphasis is placed on the use of computers as a problem solving tool, as well as a collaborative approach to problem solving. Graduates of the undergraduate program receive a Bachelor of Science degree. Graduates of the master's program receive a Master of Science or Master of Business Administration degree, depending on the course of study.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Integrated Science and Technology Department is to empower students to analyze and solve real-world, human problems by integrating scientific, technological, business and social aspects of these problems and to communicate innovative solutions to a diverse audience.

Undergraduate program

The first two years are meant to introduce the program's students to science, technology and math. The student picks three sectors to specialize in before their third year. Students choose a single concentration to specialize in during their senior year. However, they have the option to take 2 or more concentrations as longs as they complete the requirements. Currently, the ISAT major is open to all students at JMU (unlike some majors at JMU, where students compete for acceptance). This is mostly because that ISAT is a relatively small major, graduating around 70 students every year. Nearly all ISAT students start taking ISAT classes their freshman year because of the large amount of credits needed to graduate with an ISAT major.
