Background
Insurancewide.com was the first recognisable online insurance comparison to be launched. Founders, James Harrison (CEO) and David Harrison (Chairman), came from insurance and technological backgrounds to start the company in 1999. Insurancewide started out by profiling insurance providers and those searching for insurance to find the best match between the two.
Initially, the profiling of the two parties involved headline questions based around the underwriting rules of the insurance providers. However, the technology has since developed into the passing of live and more complete profile information via screenscraping and XML integration. Each of the insurance providers can interact with customers in one market place as they are able to decline quotes, request phone contact as well as offer a live quote and other information to the customer.

The insurance comparison tools built by Insurancewide serve the needs of large portals such as Yahoo, MSN, Tiscali and Excite. A range of LifeStyle and money websites such as Every Investor, Money Net, Interactive Investor, Money Extra and Up My Street also use the same tools to power the insurance sections of their sites.
