is a Canadian progressive metal band from North Vancouver, British Columbia. Their music GeneRally features a combination of melodic and screamo vocals.
History
was formed in January 2004 in North Vancouver, British Columbia when bassist David Whiteside asked lead singer Johannes Rebane if he was interested in starting a new band as they had both recently left their previous ones. After agreeing, they both began composing music and doing some home recordings of several tracks, which have evolved into some of 's most popular songs. Their first attempt at recruiting a drummer proved to be unsuccessful, but upon their second attempt, James Kim joined them. In September 2004, they signed up Erik Leonhard, who had left his former band feeling that he was unable to musically express himself to his full potential. The band also decided to seek out a keyboardist, and after several attempts at searching, found Kevin Kim, whose training in classical music greatly helped shape The Rhythm section’s feel. With a full band member complement and having performed several concerts in North Vancouver, the band decided to record a demo CD, entitled , featuring 5 songs. Despite band member claims that it was poorly done, it sold extremely well, and contributed towards paying for the band's new equipment. A year after the band was formed, they parted ways with James Kim for undisclosed reasons. Nonetheless, the band remains in contact with James to this day, and no hard feelings are held on either side. Without a drummer, the band felt their monumentum was slowing down; however, due to a coincidence involving parental connections, they came across Colin Parker, whom they felt was an adequate replacement. The addition of Colin Parker's musicianship to the band has allowed to reach new heights in their music, leading to a continually-growing fan base. They have won numerous Battle of the Bands competitions throughout the Lower Mainland, and were ranked second in the Western division of a national Battle of the Bands, and first in the Lower Mainland regionals.
On May 25, 2007, released their first full-length album, entitled Chronophobia. 100 limited-edition copies were made available, featuring exclusive album artwork and two bonus songs.
