Back to School Drives

Excerpt from Tallahassee Democrat:

Tallahassee-based Infinity Software Development, Inc. invited 30 residents of the area's Florida Baptist Children's Homes to attend the event at Bealls Department Store on Capital Circle. But before they even set foot in the store, Infinity Software volunteers gave each school-age child a backpack overflowing with notebooks, pencils, binders and all of the other items on their school supplies list.

"We want these kids to know the community cares them," said Infinity Software President Jon Taylor. "This event is a fun day for us and for them as they get the school supplies and clothes they need for the school year."

For an hour before Bealls opened to the public, the children paired up with volunteers and cruised the aisles for new clothes and shoes. Infinity Software bought approximately three school-appropriate outfits and a pair of school shoes for each child.

"When kids are prepared for school, they can walk into class on their first day feeling confident and excited AbOUT learning," Taylor said. "That's the best reward possible."

Despite the hurried pace of the tax-free, back-to-school shopping week, Bealls was eager to participate in the unique event.

"Bealls is happy to open our doors early to give some very deserving kids a fun morning of shopping," said store manager Jim Gooden.

Kathy Arrant, a volunteer who helped coordinate the shopping spree, emphasized the importance the event has for the kids.

"These are young people who rarely have choices," she said. "They've already been through so much in their lives, but today, they get to pick their own clothes and hopefully get a self-esteem boost too."

Infinity Software has organized the annual shopping spree since 2005.

Hurricane Katrina Dollar Match Program

In September 2005, Infinity announced the Hurricane Katrina Dollar-Match Program to benefit those devastated by the Hurricane Katrina disaster in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Relay for Life

Infinity proudly sponsors the Tallahassee chapter of the American Cancer Society's annual Relay For Life. Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer in our community. At the event, we celebrate survivorship and raise money to help the American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

Chess Challenge

Infinity sponsored its first chess challenge in 2003 at Pineview Elementary School. The event, intended to promote better reading and analytical skills, proved to be a wonderful opportunity for teaching staff and the community to work together in educating our local youth.

PLUS (Project Literacy U.S.)

Project Literacy U.S. is a coordinated effort to increase the level of public consciousness on the issues of adult literacy. Infinity staff have competed against other Tallahassee businesses in the Executive Spelling Bee sponsored by PLUS to raise funds for area literacy programs. Infinity has done very well in this event, although "bouquiniste" spelled the Infinity team's downfall (after 18 championship rounds).
