In Focus: Siskiyou Magazine
In Focus: Siskiyou Magazine is a television news magazine show that loosely follows the format of Evening Magazine and PM Magazine. It is produced by Siskiyou Broadcasting of Mt. Shasta and Chico, California.
History
In Focus: Siskiyou Magazine launched as a seasonal program in the summer of 1995 produced jointly by Action Video Entertainment and King Videocable/Continental Cablevision (now Northland Cable Television) of Mt. Shasta as a way to generate interest in the people, places and events relating to Siskiyou County. Only five episodes were produced between July 1995 and June 1996 before production ceased. Hosts included John Googins (shows 1 & 3-5), Mike Summers (shows 2-5) and Shelley Severns (shows 1 & 2). Googins and Summers also served as segment producers as did Alan Mainwaring ("Siskiyou Portraits") and members of the Mt. Shasta High School video production class. Show #1 was a highlight package on the 16th annual Mt. Shasta 4th of July celebration, shows #2, #3 and #5 were all basic segment-format shows and show #4 was a special entitled "What Makes News Channel 7?", a look at what goes on at KRCR-TV in Redding (which was filmed while Mike interned at KRCR). The show started as a 1/2-hour format show, then was later expanded to a one-hour format (except for show #4).
Though plans were in the works for a sixth episode, the show was cancelled in the summer of 1996 due to lack of interest and producers abandoning the project.
Revival
Just over a decade after the show last aired on Northland Cable, Mountain Community Television MCTV 15 expressed interest in rebroadcasting all five original episodes of In Focus on their public access station. The show began airing on MCTV 15 in January of 2007 and plans are in the works to relaunch the show in the coming months. Shows #3 and #5 were heavily edited to eliminate past college course announcements, past local advertising promos and a two-part segment AbOUT a college fellowship group that no longer exists. There's also hope of bringing the show to broadcast television.
