Ikono.tv

Ikono.tv is the multinational provider of a digital special-interest station with art as the main component. Ikono.tv, ltd. is registered in the United Kingdom in Birmingham and in Germany at the district court of Berlin-Charlottenburg. Ikono.tv broadcasted for the first time in Germany in early July 2006. At that time it was shown from 10pm until 12am, partly on the frequencies of other stations like JobTV24 or sometimes as a component of a program like Anixe HD at other broadcasting hours. The unique feature of the program is that it is without audio commentary. It presents artworks from The Ancient world up to the present day as visual narratives constructed of moving images. Through the medium of film and in cooperation with curators and artists the plurality and the richness of international works were shown: not only video art and films, but alsopainting, drawing, prints, sculpture, photography and architecture. In May 2007 the station reached an audience of AbOUT 12 million households. This equates to approximately 32 million people.

Since 2007 Ikono.tv is no longer a television broadcaster but a webstation on the internet. On the website one can see films on three different channels that change on a weekly basis.

Program

Ikono.tv is the first broadcasting channel in Germany which is dedicated only to the issue of art. The program is already broadcast completely in HD-Standard. The content consists of a succession of short films, about 3–10 minutes in length. Individual clips portray a compilation of different exhibitions and artists. From December 10, 2006 until October 2007 Ikono.tv also showed self-produced operas, concerts and culture programs in HD-Standard on the station Anixe HD.

Furthermore Ikono.tv has a separate channel for collaborative projects with partners such as Art Dubai, the Biennale in Venice or BAUHAUS TV. BAUHAUS TV was created as part of the 10th anniversary festivities honoring the Bauhaus. It represents an internet platform that combines an active area and an archival area. Through this platform artists, designers, architects, media producers, international institutions and members of the public can present their take on the meaning of Bauhaus.

The Venezia 2009 project emerged within the Biennale. It consisted of short films created by visitors as they remembered their pereceptions of the event. The films were then distributed through the Venezia 2009 platform.

For the end of 2009 an online shop is planned in which high gloss photographs of the artworks in the films will be available for purchase.
