I. Write

Keith Douglas Freeman (born August 14, 1978), better known by his stage name I. Write, is an American rapper and businessman. He is the Co-founder of Popular Music Inc., along with James “Rhythm Ghost” Ferrell. The two started Popular Music Group in 2007 after several attempts to land a record deal failed. In December 2007 the duo released Pardon the Interruption under the name Phlock Of Phoenix, the city in Illinois in which James was raised. The album had very little success only selling 500 copies and 3000 ringtones. In an effort to change the labels image I. Write began his solo career in 2008 with the release of Kinda Blu. That too wasn’t received very well, but in the summer of 2008 I. Write began putting together a variable on slot of freestyles to such hits like Maybach Music, and They Know. The compilation would be dubbed as “The Black Market Mixtapes”. Then his brother and former A&R would help him develop his freestyle approach to recording. In May 2009 I. Write unveiled the first in a saga of albums triumphantly entitled “Press Release 1.0”. The recording was received with enormous enthusiasm and in June 2009 “It’s Cool” debuted on national powerhouse radio station WGCI 107.5 in Chicago. In January of 2010 I. Write was scheduled to release "Whatever's Necessary" his third album in so many years but as of late it has been postponed until March of 2010.

Early years

During his youth I. Write grew up in a small Chicago, Illinois suburb called Riverdale where he attended General George S. Patton Elementary School. There he began playing trumpet in the school band after watching the Spike Lee production Mo Betta Blues. At age 14 his parent moved further south to the quite suburban town South Holland. There he took his talent and enthusiasm for music to Thornridge High School. Under the guidance of Band Director David Eanes he became a stand out in classical, marching, and jazz bands. After he graduated in 1996 I. Write attended Grambling State University where he participated in the marching and played basketball for the Tigers as well until his departure in 1999. In the fall of 1999 I. Write attended The University of Iowa. Soon his youthful curiosity would get the best of him and a street hustlers mentality would takeover. I. Write would spend the next three years doing everything the law would let him get away with including selling drugs, robbery, and legal gambling rings. In 2006 after years of hustling I. Write traded in the streets for the studio.

POP Music Ltd./ Popular Music Inc. was founded by Keith "I. Write" Freeman and James "Rhythm Ghost" Ferrell in 2007. The duo started the label after Rhythm Ghost departed the band Tye Dye Skye in which he was a percussionist. The two started as producers and engineers, then later became artist. In June 2007 the POP Music signed it's first distribution deal with Priority Distribution for physical CD sales. Later that year POP Music Group sign one the first major online distribution deals with Catapult Distribution, making them one of the first internet labels. In September of I. Write recorded "I Used to Love Her" as a title track for the upcoming independent film directed by Mark Harris of 555 filmworks. The duo paired up on December 2007 to release the first album "Pardon the Interruption and sold and streamed over 50,000 copies worldwide. In early 2008 POP music Group signed one of the first exclusive agreements with Myxer to sell ringtones. March 2008 marked a milestone for POP music Group as I. Write's single "Stretch" off his solo album released later that year entitled "Kinda Blu", made its radio debut. In 2009 POP Music Group was fully incorporated, changing it's name to "POP Music Limited/ Popular Music Inc". Rhythm Ghost released a single that year entitled "Yo DJ" which has earned him huge underground success. His debut album "The Encounter" was scheduled to be released in 2009 but was subsequently postponed.
