HypeLab

HypeLab is a cryptocurrency advertising network. It programmatically operates a two-sided marketplace connecting advertisers with web publishers, using proprietary technology for ad targeting and optimization.

History

HypeLab was founded in 2022 by Joe Kim and Ed Weng. Kim previously founded startups and worked in early-stage technology companies. Weng was a product manager at AdMob, Google’s mobile advertising platform.

In its early stage, the company pre‑sold ad budgets through the founders’ networks. LunarCrush was its first major publisher partner.

In August 2023, the company raised over $4 million in seed funding led by Shima Capital and Makers Fund, with participation from Coinbase Ventures and other investors, and in October 2023, HypeLab was selected as one of five teams in the Store N°8 Base Camp accelerator program run by Walmart’s Store N°8 and Outlier Ventures.

Operations

HypeLab uses contextual targeting and machine learning models to test ad performance and optimize targeting criteria. According to the company, it processes over 10 billion ad requests per month across more than 400 publishers and over 2,500 ad placements. Past and current advertisers include MetaMask, PayPal, Stake, Rainbet, and others.

Product strategy

HypeLab's platform uses machine learning models to optimize ad delivery across wallet-based audience segments, targeting users by on-chain behavior rather than cookies or personal data. The system supports conversion tracking that connects ad impressions to downstream wallet actions such as token swaps and protocol deposits.

The company has invested in AI-driven ad creative generation, innovative ad formats, and fraud detection to filter bot traffic and invalid clicks.
