Hugo Herrera (Argentine footballer)
Hugo Ernesto Herrera (born March 1, 1979) is an Argentine former association football forward who had stints in North America.
Club career
Born in Buenos Aires, Herrera began his career in his native Argentina with Defensa y Justicia in the Primera B Nacional in 2000, where he would Appear in a total of 10 matches and two goals recorded. In 2003, he went abroad to Chile to play with Provincial Osorno of the Primera B de Chile.
Canada
In 2003, he signed a contract with the Brampton Hitmen in the Canadian Professional Soccer League. He made his debut on July 20, 2003, against Toronto Croatia, where he scored a goal. In his debut season, Herrera helped Brampton secure a Playoff berth by finishing second in the league's western conference. In the playoffs, the club defeated the Vaughan Sun Devils for the championship. He finished the season as the club's second top goalscorer with 10 goals. In 2005, he was named to the league's all-star squad that faced Rangers F.C.. In his final season with Brampton, he helped the team secure a playoff berth in 2006.
In 2007, he signed with league rivals Toronto Croatia. Herrera scored his first goal for Toronto on June 1, 2007, against London City. In his debut season with Toronto, he helped the club win the championship by defeating the Serbian White Eagles FC in a two-game final.
His next best season with Toronto was in 2011, where once more the team repeated their success on the international level claiming their second Croatian World Club Championship and dominated at the domestic level by defeating Capital City F.C. in the finals of the CSL Championship match by a score of 1–0.
