Hispanic-Canadian Poetry

General IDeaS

According to Luis Torres and Luciano P. Díaz, it refers to authors who write in Spanish, they are still alive and current. In addition, they are developing an important work in the last two decades inside the Canadian territory. Canada is an example of asylum ground of new voices and memoirs that offer now a possibility for reflection and dialogue. The Hispanic-Canadian writers face the questions of personal and social barriers that are identified with the exile and the memory. But, at the same time, they delineate a question of what has been called " adaptation and integration ". They have put themselves in conflict, in the above mentioned literature, the idea of loyalty to the ground of origin and it looks alike to affirm that the adaptation and integration, although inevitable in many cases, they should not believe a final point but they pass a new state for the reflection concerning the situation of the person in the so-called global world. Along with the aesthetic value, perhaps this is an excellent characteristic: they allow us to glimpse another side, which is ignored, from the loss of the ties to the place, of the crisis of the identity and of the guided globalization.

The critics

For Juan Pablo Ortiz-Hernández, " the polemic after Hispanic-Canadian speaks about a poetry is not closed since the poets' community that they write in Spanish along his ten provinces, three territories and, moreover there of these, grows to firm steps every day. Along with English and French, that as official languages have given a sinnúmero of literary samples in Canada, the Hispanic lettering have come to cover a surface of expression for the artists who form, in this territory, an affectionate linguistic homeland to give sample of a bequeathed depth that one adds and complements to the literary Canadian history and the culture ". Both Luis Torres and Luciano P. Díaz believe that " that the multiple voices assembled in this anthology and that his memoirs, so much those that they affirm as those who contradict the stability of or of the one that it enunciates, are propitious for the reflection concerning another side of the modern experience of the emigration and of the struggle for supporting a sense of identity when she enters crisis. In these poetical worlds, the voice and the memory they form two crucial instances that indicate the persistence of the being for on the duel of the loss of the bonds with the place and with the community ".
