Henry Levy

Henry Levy (1922-1996), of New York City, was a photographer and an avid stamp collector.

Early years

Henry Levy was a photographer, born in New York City 1922. He attended the George Washington High School in New York, graduating in 1940. Following graduation he earned a Photography Degree from Columbia University. During World War II he served in the ninth air force as an aerial photographer. He was the Recipient of four Bronze Stars and participated in the D-Day Landing. After 4 years he received an honourable discharge from the service and returned to New York City.

He worked for UPI, the Associated Press and Labor Press. In his later years he did photography on the coast of Maine and spent 25 summers taking photos of Monhegan Island. He also became a stamp dealer. In 1988, Levy moved to Rockland, Maine and in 1992 he moved to Portland, Maine.

Collecting interests

He was a member of the American Philatelic Society, the Bureau Issues Association and the Maine Philatelic Society. He died at the age of 74 in Portland.

Honors and awards

Henry Levy is the winner of numerous photography awards. In 1998 the Maine State Museum purchased a collection of his photographs to add to their Maine photography.
