Grupo Fantasma (Peruvian band)

Grupo Fantasma was a cumbia MusicAL group formed in 1985 by Discos Peerless of Mexico and Producciones Nazareno of Peru.

In the 1980s, in Mexico and several Latin American countries sounds many cumbia musical hits from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Peru, but in Peru, exists several cumbia groups managed by the most important musical entreprises like Industria fonografica peruana of Alberto Maravi, Discos Horoscopo of Juan Campos, Discos El Virrey, and Iempsa (Odeon Peru).

Discos Peerless was interested in to distribute peruvian cumbia in Mexico, but Infopesa of Peru denied its licences, then, Discos Peerless in alliance with Producciones Nazareno of Peru, CREATES Grupo Fantasma with Raul Serrano as director, a famous vocalist in other musical groups like "Virtuosos de la Salsa" (Combo palacio), "Cuarteto continental" and "Cuarteto universal".

Its first musical hit in Mexico was a huayno by Ulises Hermosa from Bolivia called "Huayayay" adapted in cumbia, included in the LP of Discos Peerless "El disco del año vol 7" in 1986, in this LP, shares credit with other musical group formed by Peerless and Nazareno, "Cuarteto Continente".

Grupo Fantasma was very popular cumbia group in Mexico, Central America and Caribbean countries, its material was distributed partially in the south an east coasts of the U.S.A.

Grupo Fantasma was a group of "studio", after recorded its hits, the project was concluded in 1990 between Peerless and Nazareno.
