Goats of Anarchy

Goats of Anarchy (GOA) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, and sanctuary in Annandale, New Jersey. It is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of handicapped or abused goats and other animals. The goats are either adopted from the Barnyard Sanctuary or are adopted through contacts on Instagram.

Background

Goats of Anarchy was started by Leanne Lauricella at her suburban home and then moved to its current location. A second location has opened under the name GOA2.

The sanctuary's best-known resident is a goat named Polly. Polly is blind and experiences anxiety, but is comforted by her duck costume. A video of Polly riding in a shopping cart while wearing the duck costume went viral, attracting much attention to Goats of Anarchy. Polly has also become the face of Goats of Anarchy by being featured on the cover of Leanne Lauricella's book "Goats of Anarchy".

Lauricella has authored four books featuring Goats of Anarchy animals, including Goats of Anarchy: One Woman's Quest to Save the World One Goat at a Time and three picture books for children: Polly and Her Duck Costume, The Goat with Many Coats, and Piney the Goat Nanny. There is also a 2018 calendar featuring photos of the goats and other animals.

Leanne Lauricella decided to become vegetarian and later vegan after researching factory farming while stuck in traffic. Lauricella began to rescue goats after seeing goats on farms and decided she wanted some of her own. After adopting five goats and several chickens, she decided it was time to move to a farm.

Goats of Anarchy was the winner of a People's Voice Webby Award in 2016 and 2017.
