Global travel market
Global Travel Market Ltd (GTM) is an internet services provider for the travel industry based in London, UK. It belongs to a new breed of internet businesses that offer price comparison services. The business model is relatively different from that of the established online travel agents and holiday providers in that companies such as GTM only offer comparison services and do not get involved in actual bookings.
GTM uses travel databases combining accommodation and flights booking information to enable users to compare prices. Users then proceed to complete the booking on the vendors website. By focusing marketing efforts locally GTM partners with Tourism Boards worldwide to deliver solutions for consumers.
Global Travel Market partners include Lonely Planet, STA Travel, HILTON Hotels, Singapore Airlines Opodo, ebookers and Thomas Cook.
History
Global Travel Market was launched in 2005 with the idea of applying the travel meta-search concept to niche leisure and tourism markets. The first site launched by Global Travel Market was australiatravelmarket.com in February 2006. Following the successful launch, the site was subsequently launched in China in July 2006. Other niche markets entered were Asia and Malaysia with the support of the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board. BizClass Travel Market is the latest in the series and the first global site to offer price comparison on business class flights.
Innovation
Global Travel Market claims to be the first travel meta-search engine to develop a carbon responsible Travel policy that includes the integration of a carbon calculator as an integral element of their flight booking engine.
