Mission statement
The Cape Breton - Victoria Regional School Board’s mission statement challenges all persons to develop their full potential to become confident, versatile, lifelong learners and thinkers. The Board is committed to provide the best educational programs and services to the students and the community and is noted for its diversity in all programs.
History
The adult high school program was established to provide an effective learning environment to meet the needs of the adult learner. The adult high school program targeted young adults who dropped out of school for various reasons and the older adult who never completed their high school studies.
The program started with sites in three communities: Sydney, Glace Bay, and New Waterford. As the program continued to develop, adult high schools were started in three more communities: Louisbourg, Sydney Mines, and northern Cape Breton Island.
The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board has been serving the needs of the adult learner through the adult high school program since 1996. Over 500 students have graduated from the program with the majority of them continuing on to community college or university studies.

There are two semesters in the school year. Students can take up to four courses in each semester, if the courses offered fit the student’s schedule and requirements.
The first semester begins in early September, with mid-term exams for the first half of the first semester being held usually in the middle of November. The second half of the first semester ends at the end of January, with all final and provincial exams being written usually a few days prior. The second semester begins in early February.
Students can expect two more exams before the end of the school year. The first half of the second semester has its mid-term exams held sometime either at the end of March, early April, or the middle of April.
