Gökhan Ülker

Gökhan Ülker (born 15 September 1986) is a Turkish footballer who plays for Southern League Premier Division side Rugby Town as a striker.

Career

Early career

Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Ülker moved from Turkey to Northampton at an early age. Aged just eight-years-old, he was signed by Premier League side Aston Villa. Over the course of the next few years, he learned his trade while on the books of the Villains.

Northampton Town

After years on the books at Villa Park, Ülker joined local side Northampton Town on a four-year deal.

Return to Turkey

In 2006, a few clubs from his homeland of Turkey were interested in signing Gökhan from The Cobblers. Genclerbirligi amongst others were interested in securing his signature, however it was Giresunspor he opted to sign for. Ülker penned a two-year-deal with Çotanaklar who were under Turan Sofuoglu management.

Kahramanmaraşspor & Ankara Demirspor

One year on and he found himself once again on the move, this time with Kahramanmaraşspor before moving on to Ankara Demirspor.

Return to England

In October 2007, he made his return to English football with non-League side Long Buckby.

Tamworth

In October 2009, Ülker joined Conference National side Tamworth on trial. He featured in their 2-1 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first round of the Birmingham Senior Cup. After joining the club just days later, he featured in his first league game against Hayes & Yeading after coming off the bench in the 46th minute of the game.

Rugby Town

It was announced on 22 January 2010 that Ülker was leaving Tamworth to join Rugby Town. One of the main reason behind this is the club is closer to his home in Northampton.
