Gibson Victory

The Gibson Victory was an electric guitar produced by Gibson Guitars from 1981 until 1983 (although some sources say production lasted until 1984). The Victory, a superstrat, was radical departure from Gibson's image as an old-fashioned guitar maker.

History

In order to respond to the superstrat craze, Gibson introduced many new models such as the US-1, the US-2, and the M-III. Though the US-1 was Gibson's first mass-production Gibson superstrat, the Victory is regarded as the first Gibson superstrat. The Victory was produced from 1981 to c. 1983/4, which makes it a rare guitar. However, the Victory's bass guitar model was produced from 1981 to c. 1986.

Models

The Victory was only available as a six string solid body guitar. Two models were produced:

• MV2 - "Velvet Brick" neck humbucker, "Magna II" bridge humbucker, passive electronics with one volume and one tone knob and one three-position pickup selector, and an Indian rosewood fretboard.
• MVX - "Magna Plus" neck humbucker, "Magna Plus B" bridge humbucker, "Super Stack" middle humbucker, passive electronics one volume and one tone knob, a five-position pickup selector, a coil tap switch, and a Madagascan ebony fretboard.
