Giani Tirath Singh Ji was a historical Sikh figure, who has recently passed away (18th September 2014, age 85). Born 25th Feb. 1929 to S. Sant Singh ji & Sukhwant kaur ji, pind Mandri mehra, distt. Muzaffarabad.
At AbOUT the age of 16 Giani Ji joined the Army and went Gilgit for military training. During the India Pakistan partition he got arrested by Pakistani Army and spent three long years in Attak jail. During the exchange of soldiers in 1950 he was released by Pakistani army and returned to India via Wagah border. From then on Giani Tirath Singh Ji left his army job, and was placed in Yoll camp. Then he was married with Pritam kaur in YOL camp. After some time of struggles, Giani Ji got a job in Indian Railway, which he did then for 3 years. Tirath Singh was a very spiritual, honest and humane being, who was very compassionate about Sikhism. Resigning from the Railway, Giani Tirath Singh Ji choose the path of spirituality, becoming a Granthi (Priest). Giani Ji spent the next 25 years doing Katha and Kirtan while serving as a priest at Gurudwara in Bharthana and Aligarh. Through these years of spreading wisdom of Sikhi and the Truths of the society, Giani Ji become a well known figure and was praised around many parts of India. His honest and selfless services, along with his great knowledge of Sikh philosophy had inspired many people around his presence, and more than 1000 people had taken Amrit (become baptised) due to his inspirational katha and lectures. He didn't just hold great knowledge and passion for Sikhism and humanity, but he had implemented his beliefs and rules on his entire family and himself. Giani Tirath Singh Ji and Pritam Kaur Ji had 6 Sons and 1 Daughter, all who lived together as a happy family and followed Giani Ji's set rules with respect. Giani Ji's eldest son, Dr. Jaspal Singh Ji had become politically strong (Current Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University), and the other sons were also finding their hard working ways to live their lives, which led Giani Tirath Singh Ji to do what he had aimed for! Giani Ji had educated and taken his children towards the path of truth and hardwork - which led to success, this allowed Giani Ji to continue all of his Katha, Kirtan and Sewa Voluntarily from then till death, and never did he even take a penny for his hard work and services. Instead, Giani Tirath Singh Ji selflessly donated to charity and was always helping people in need. During his lifetime, Giani Ji had constructed many Gurudwara and Mandir for which he had big-heartedly financed, and never did he ask for anything back. His contributions to the society, both spiritual and practical, had put him into the hearts of countless people, whom he had always helped at request and had never asked for anything back. All of his hard valuable work in life and his priceless good DEEDS had reflected largely after his death on the 18th of September 2014. Many great figures had come to attend his Bhog, along with his family and all of his lovers whom he had helped at time of need. His Antim Ardaas was done by Singh Sahib Jathedar Gurbachan Singh Ji, and the Hukamnama was taken by a former Jathedar. Giani Tirath Singh Ji's life has set a great example for the world, and will always be remembered and missed by many.
