Ghazanfar Mehdi

Dr. Ghazanfar Mehdi (born 1 September 1944, Multan, Pakistan) has founded 24 literary, social and religious organisations. He is a leading intellectual who has organised over 7,000 conferences over the past 40 years. Dr Ghanzanfar Mehdi is founder of the Saraiki Movement.

Dr Ghazanfar Mehdi is the Chairman of World Saraiki Congress, DIARA - The oldest literary association of the Federal Capital, Archaeological & Historical Association of Pakistan, Josh Malihabadi, ECO - Cultural Association.

Dr. Mehdi is Chairman of the Markazi Imam Hussain Council. Dr. Mehdi founded the Council in 1978 on the 1400th Anniversary of Imam Hussain's birth. Imam Hussain is the grandson of the Holy Prophet Mohammad.

Professional life

He started his civil service career in 1964. Since then he has served as in numerous high level positions including Deputy Director General for Programmes at the Pakistan National Centre, Director General, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Director General, National Highways Authority (NHA), Director General, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, Media Advisor, Ministry of Communications and most recently Advisor, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.

Education

Dr. Mehdi has the only Ph.D in Sufism in Pakistan.

Personal life

Born on September 1, 1944 in Multan, Pakistan. He is married to Neelofar Yasmeen and has three children and three grandchildren.
