Gharghasht
Gharghasht () refers to the Pashtun sub-tribes that are descended from Gharghasht, one of Qais Abdur Rashid's sons.
Below are some of the sub-tribes present today that claim descent from Gharghasht:
- Babai
- Daavi
- Jadoon
- Kakar
- khudadi
- Ludin
- Mando
- Mashwanis
- Naghar
- Safi
Many of the people belonging to these sub-tribes reside in the Kunar and Kandahar provinces of Afghanistan, and Quetta and Attock District of Pakistan, speak Pashto as their mother tongue.
There is also a town called Ghorghushti founded by Inayat Khel (the KHAN tribe), Kakar, Dilawar Khel and Matta Khel tribes (latter two have the same Progenitor). It is one of the largest town in chhachh.
Unofficially the region encompassing Attock is called chhachh, which is derived from the Pukhto/Pushto word Chaj and the Pashtuns living there are usually called Chhachi (Pashtun) or simply chhachhi. chhachh Pakhtuns are revered for their fighting ability in ancient times and more recently for their many advancements in education, culture, and society.
