History

GetEducated.com was founded in 1989 by consumer advocate Vicky Phillips in a partnership with AOL and the Electronic University Network originally as an online counseling center for distance learners. Phillips has written The Best Distance Learning Graduate Schools: Earning Your Degree Without Leaving Home and Never Too Late to Learn: The Adult Student's Guide to College, both published by the The Princeton Review.

Best Buy Lists

GetEducated.com offers Best Buy lists for accredited online degrees. Each list is a ranking of the total cost of every online degree program of that type offered in the US, in order from lowest to highest. Total cost is based on informational surveys and publicly-posted tuition rates and fees for each program. Best Buy Awards are given to programs that cost less than the national average.

Other website features

The Diploma Mill Police is a free anti-diploma-mill service available at GetEducated.com where you can check if an online college is a fraud or not.

In 2009, GetEducated.com brought attention to the problem of diploma mills by purchasing an MBA from Rochville University for the company mascot, a pug dog named Chester Ludlow.
