George Tambakis

George 'The Flying Greek' Tambakis was born in Mykonos, Greece, on 21st July 1989. George migrated to Brisbane, Australia in 1999. In Brisbane he was able to gain a scholarship to play rugby at the prestigious St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace. Enrolling in 2002 George excelled and quickly became an integral member of the First XV rugby team going onto represent Queensland at the National Under 16 National Championship in 2005. After graduating George went onto play for Easts Tigers Rugby Union in the Brisbane Club Rugby Competition where he quickly gain the nickname 'The Flying Greek' for his 'barnstorming' runs out of the centres.

Back on the field George went onto represent Queensland again in the under 19 team . Following a run of impressive displays for Easts Tigers Rugby Union he was selected to represent Greece in rugby league in the lead up to the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. Unfortunately Greece did not make into World Cup Finals.

George now lives in Sydney, Australia where he began studying medicine at the The University of Notre Dame Australia. He is also attempting to revive his rugby career in he hope of representing Greece at the next World Cup.
