Gen Nishino

Before becoming a highly acclaimed magazine photographer, Gen began his early journey into the world of aesthetics at Yosh for Hair, San Francisco’s [...] edge and world-renowned salon. Gen first exercised his innate creativity and acumen for beauty with his award-winning creations as a hairstylist. Not long after his tenure at Yosh for Hair, first as a hairstylist, then as Educational Director and Manager, Gen was pursued by many fashion magazines because of his impressive work resulting in his avant-garde, state-of-the-art coiffeurs gracing the glossy pages of magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and Mademoiselle. After many successes Gen’s artful vision began to express itself through the eyes of a camera. Eventually, Gen traded in his blow-dryer for a Hasselblad. Though Gen’s art changed venues, his success remained the same. Soon major publishing houses in the U.S. and international market like [Condé Naste, Hearst, Filipacchi, Figaro] were clamoring for his work. Gen was born in Tokyo, living several years in Saigon until he came to America at the age of nine. He graduated from high school in San Francisco and joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served for four years. Not surprisingly, Gen resides in the historically artistic community of Greenwich Village in New York City.
