Gaston Goor
Gaston Goor (Lunéville, France, October 26, 1902 – 1977) was a French painter, illustrator and sculptor.
Education and Career
Goor studied at the École des Beaux-Arts of Nancy and moved to in Paris in 1925. There he met André Gide. In 1930, he worked on home design with the Jansen company and painted frescoes at the Lip factory.
In the mid 30s, he settled in the countryside, and maintained a relationship with the writer and gallery owner Renaud Icard, a friend of Gide.
Goor illustrated books such as L'étoile du soir from Henry de Montherlant, Les contes from Boccace, the work of Restif de la Bretonne, La religieuse from Diderot. Goor created lithographies for Les amitiés particulières from Roger Peyrefitte, Paris, Flammarion, 1953 (J. Dumoulin ; Marcel Manequin, 10 mai 1953) and 32 illustrations in the book Mon Page from Renaud Icard - Éditions Quintes-Feuilles, 2009.
Goor created paintings and painted doors for Roger Peyrefitte's Parisian apartment.
Most of Goor's work are accessible and are illustrations for books and paintings belonging to private collections.
Goor was buried in the cemetery of Hyères.
