GalaXseeds
GalaXseeds is a part of The Big Rip massively multiplayer online games (MMOG’s) launched by Corus Entertainment. The game is free to play and is geared towards preteens.
The GalaXseeds universe is a system of four planets that are inhabited by strange and wonderful gardeners called Seedizens. Like many other virtual environment games, GalaXseeds allows players to customize their own avatar from a variety of wacky options. After creating their Seedizen, players customize their Pod which serves as both a home and garden for the botanists.

The GalaXseeds Chronicles:
The Beginning of the End
Long ago, in a time that has since been forgotten, lived a vastly different GalaXseeds. A GalaXseeds unlike anything you or I have ever bore witness to. A sole planet, Kalos, suspended high above the darkest cosmos, was inhabited by an entire population of skilled gardeners. They are our ancestors. They are our history. But their story has long since been buried amongst the rubble of crushed dreams, the consequences of greed and the scars of forgotten memories.
Within Kalos, there laid five distinct provinces, Luma, Therma, Strata, Subterra, and a name that even the bravest Seedizen has not dared uttered in many lifetimes, Anathema. Together they created a formidable planet whose size was dwarfed only by its reputation. For millions of years the Seedizens of these five provinces existed in a harmonious state, for their land was fertile and their harvests were bountiful. Sadly, it was not enough for some.
In Kalos’ early years, a High Council was formed containing a member from each province. This was to ensure that all five corners of the planet were equally represented. It was within the walls of the Tower of Oath, that the High Council debated and passed laws that would serve as the foundation on which Kalos was built. Since the High Council's inception, its sovereignty was defined by impartial representation. It was universally lauded for its efforts and managed to neutralize any potential occurrences of social unrest. This state of uniformity had long been the secret to Kalos’ success and was vital to maintain its sanctity and ensure a prosperous future.
As the moons passed a new era dawned, the demise of Kalos had already begun to materialize and not a single soul was the wiser. In fact, on the surface Kalos appeared to be healthier than ever. Its plants were feverishly demanded on the open market with gardening showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Life had never been better, or so it seemed.
The Anathemans, believed to be the most rebellious of Seedizens, had long since shared the opinion that their gardening skills dwarfed that of their neighbouring provinces. For the most part, they were content to bite their tongues and enjoy the fruits of their labour, but every so often their narcissistic beliefs would rear their ugly heads and threaten the long since established Peace Acorn. Fortunately, each time such events transpired, it was passionately discussed amongst the High Council until order was once again restored. That is, of course, until Anathema’s newly appointed High Councilor, Baron Hazrdos, decided to blatantly betray the Oath of Absolution and began failing to report incidents of dissensions within the Anatheman borders.
The Abeo Legacy
Buried deep within the High Forest of Anathema, Baron Hazrdos watched with great interest as a collection of Kalos’ most enlightened gardeners were hard at work. It had been months since the Baron had commissioned their kidnapping and the results were finally coming to fruition. Within his grasp was a concoction so potent, so powerful, that it’s very presence would grant him control of the High Council and Anathema would take its rightful place atop Kalos' hierarchy. His legacy was certain to be fulfilled, and the other councilors would mercifully bow at his feet and do as he said. It was a time he had dreamt of each nightfall, and now, it was on the verge of realization. He named it Abeo, for Baron Hazrdos, has heard the name once as a young Seedling and became enchanted with its origin.
Before long, Anathema was producing plants at a record pace. They were far bigger and stronger than any Seedizen could ever recall seeing. The demand for Abeo Seeds knew no bounds, and it was not long before outrageous prices were being charged. In the blink of an eye the market had shifted and it was not long before there was little need for the Seeds from Luma, Therma, Strata or even Subterra. Rumour and whisper spread rampantly across Kalos and an emergency High Council meeting was called. It would be the last of its kind.
As questions and accusations flew through the air, Baron Hazrdos stared blankly at his fellow councilors and couldn’t help but let out a sly grin. He assured himself that they were simply jealous of the destiny he was about to realize and remained confident that he had done absolutely nothing wrong. As the Baron grew tired of listening to others talk, he let out a slight snarl, sharpened his eyes, stared directly at the High Council members and delivered an ultimatum he had been reciting for weeks. Pledge their services to the cause of Anathema or suffer certain extinction. It was their choice.
Their initial reluctance did not surprise Baron Hazrdos. It was expected. The Councilors were set in their ways but he displayed great confidence that they would eventually come around. They would have no choice. Some of their “loyal” followers had long since crossed the Anathema borders in search of Abeo Seeds. Anathema was the future, and the Baron would be the one to lead it to glory. It was only a matter of time before that was apparent to Seedizens everywhere.
Anathema’s population soared and its fields were covered with an impressive collection of plants that reached high into the clouds. Baron Hazrdos’ Abeo serum was believed to be the answer to problems big and small. Not a single seed was planted without it first being thoroughly soaked in the Abeo potion. It was a way of life in Anathema, and not a single Seedizen questioned it. Why would they? They had followed Baron Hazrdos’ orders from the beginning and he had led them to levels of wealth they had never before thought possible.
As Anathema continued to prosper, the remaining provinces were losing Seedizens by the minute. Botanickels were scarce and rumour had it that in Anathema they were having trouble finding room to store all of theirs. You could hardly blame a Seedizen for leaving his or her home province in search of hope. What other choice was there?
Forgotten Brotherhood
The High Council members held firm to their belief that equality was necessary for Kalos’ existence but they were under immense pressure from their constituents to pay whatever price necessary to secure the Abeo potion. A vote was held by secret ballet and it was decided that the High Council members would give in to Baron Hazrdos’ ignoble demands by a tally of three to one. And so sealed the fate of Kalos and all that hailed from its rich land.
As Seedizens from Luma, Subterra, Strata and Therma anxiously began planting the Abeo seeds they were unknowingly pounding the final nail into Kalos’ coffin. The once storied planet was on the brink of extinction and its demise was only accelerated by Baron Hazrdos himself. Fueled by an insatiable thirst for even more power, Baron Hazrdos became consumed with the idea of one day ruling the entire universe. He had conquered GalaXseeds but he needed more. More gardeners were snatched and soon an even stronger potion lay in the Baron’s hands. He named it Lithos, for it was to grant him power over the whole universe.
Seedizens from all reaches were summoned to the center of Kalos to attend the momentous occasion. Baron Hazrdos stood before the masses and spoke of history and universal domination. When the time was right he held up a vial of Lithos and gently poured the potion on a small seed. Within seconds a monstrous plant rose through the soil leaving the crowd in awe. Baron Hazrdos howled with laughter as a feeling of indestructibility rushed through his body. It would not last long.
For months the Abeo serum had seeped through Kalos’ crust and had slowly been eating away at its central core. The Lithos was a far more powerful potion and its side effects were fierce and instantaneous. Beneath the surface, the Lithos hardened and permanently cracked Kalos at its seams.
Seedizens scattered as the ground they were standing on eroded away into nothing. The Tower of Oath, the symbol of Kalos, was damaged beyond repair. Luma, Therma, Strata and Subterra were all torn apart, launched into the universe to the precise locations they now find themselves. Once equal components of Kalos were now entirely unconnected except the Teleplanters, that had been built many moons ago to shorten travel across Kalos. The Brotherhood of Kalos was lost forever in a myriad of comet showers.
Anathema was cast into the darkness of space never to be heard from again. Not a single trace remained showing that it had ever existed besides a handful of myths passed down from one generation to the next. There are whispers that the spirit of Baron Hazrdos lives on, embedded in the very substance that destroyed Kalos. Hardened Seedizens chalked that up to tall tales from gardeners with active imaginations. And so the wait for the truth continues.
Spaceticides: The Eternal Struggle:
Epoch of Despair
Cast off into space, separated from all that they had ever come to know, the Anathemans appeared destined to suffer a most unfortunate fate. The compass of the cosmos guided them past even the farthest of stars and into an existence that was as foreign to them, as they were to it. As the weeks turned to months, and the months to years, they passed the darkest recesses of space, and light quickly became nothing more than a distant memory. Shadows blanketed the vast landscape, and seclusion from even the smallest group of neighbouring beings was an unavoidable reality. History seemed determined to erase them from its pages. Their names would soon be forgotten by the sand and winds of time and it would be as though they never existed at all. Just as these fears appeared to be coming to fruition, and resignation was widespread, a resurgence of spirit overcame two prominent Anathemans. Their motivations could not be more different; however they bonded together in their quest to save Anathema from its horrifying state.
The first to speak to the masses and break the time of silence was Odon, an elderly sort, filled with wisdom and intellect but short on image. Odon provided a glimmer of hope where there had been none for so long, speaking in volume and with great passion, detailing a future for Anathema that would allow for upcoming generations to grow and prosper. She reasoned that the Anathemans were people of the land and should act as such, despite their sunless existence. And so, new Seeds were fused and grown and life improved as well it could under circumstances as they were. The longing for Kalos and what once was, remained, but all agreed, much was improved.
Sensing the dramatic shift of his people, Craeton, a distinguished Seedizen, due to things he had achieved long ago, recognized a rare opportunity to renew his place. Craeton, armed with much wit and even greater control of words, was everything that Odon wished to be, and saw this as his great chance to achieve all that he had desired. And so, Craeton waited until the time was right, a moment that only he could measure, and began to spread the kind of whispers that cause another's reputation to come into question. Those that knew better refused to believe what their ears had heard, for they were certain in their belief of Odon’s work and their loyalties remained where they had always stood. Others, the type who believed that Craeton was the greater of the two, fell victim to his penchant for scandal, and soon he possessed their frail allegiance. As Craeton continued his attack on Odon's character, Anathemans were forced to choose a side and defend it with great vigor. At first the dispute was innocent enough, demonstrations were held and words were spoken, but life remained very much the same. It was not until Craeton's charming smile turned, and his patience had thinned, that Anathema became truly divided. And so, the War of Akanthos began.
War of Akanthos
Odon, for all her limitations, was a great Seedizen. She was easy to follow for she cared little for her name to be spoken, that time had long since come and gone, and was devoted solely to securing Anathema with a life that all could be proud of. Because of this, her legions, who had acquired the moniker of the Veritas, were profound in size and rule of the land. In opposition, Craeton's followers, who he titled the Spaceticides for reason not what you would think, were dwarfed by the Veritas both in numbers and loyalty. Because of this, the Spaceticides displayed limited interest in testing fate and challenging the Veritas’ dominion, as their presence was acquired either through Botanickels or lies and not devotion to Craeton’s authority. And so it seemed as though Anathema would remain as it was, and avoid the dastardly deeds that Craeton had always intended for it, except, fate with its ruthless nature, decided to intervene and prolong Anathema's state of affliction.
An Anatheman by the name of Maelstrom, a close ally of Odon’s, came upon a sight strange to her, for nothing like this had been seen for as long as anyone could recall. Light appeared to be emanating from the High Forest. More intrigued than frightful, Maelstrom advanced and, upon his arrival, made a most pleasant discovery. There was company to be found of foreign descent and he hurried to draw their attention. Scouts from Insula, chartering a ship to expand their knowledge of the Darkened Abyss, spotted Maelstrom and warmly welcomed him aboard. It was there, that Maelstrom listened intently to the Insulas, while they explained their presence and the way of their people. The Insulas inhibited a small planet that was as bare as it was diminutive, but they possessed a considerable understanding of advanced technology. It was this technical knowledge that inspired them to continue their scouting excursions and assist less established planets in achieving a better life, free of terror and fear. The Anathemans, as described to them by Maelstrom with no exaggeration of the truth, were in need of greater assistance than any they had ever laid witness to.
Maelstrom, burdened by the duty of his friendship to Odon, struggled to silence the whispers of greed churning in his head. However, the bounty of awaiting riches was too great and Maelstrom's thoughts became consumed. Without further hesitation, he sent word to Craeton. Unaware of Craeton's true intentions, or the delicate situation brewing in Anathema, the Insulas were quite generous in their tutorials, and knowledge was exchanged. Craeton could barely believe his good fortune and was quick to manipulate his new knowledge, implementing it in ways not intended by the Insulas. Weapons and armour, the likes of which were beyond anything ever dreamed just days before, were constructed and donned. That was all that was needed to shift the power in the War of Akanthos. The Veritas were good-natured Seedizens, but far too simple to withstand the Spaceticides' impressive force despite being ten times as strong in number. Odon, fearful for her admirers and thinking of their futures, conceded to defeat and pledged her support to Craeton, determined to fight again under a more forgiving moon. Craeton then enslaved the Insulas, robbing them of all that of their knowledge and preventing them from telling a soul about what was occurring on Anathema.
Using all that the Insulas had to offer, Craeton went in search of new planets, with new technologies to exploit and new forces to suppress. The majority of Anathemans were horrified at Craeton's actions and disapproved of what they as a people had become. A few spoke longingly of the darkened times, for life was hard but consciences were clear. All of that mattered little, for what was done was done and the past could not be easily revised. A new era was upon them, as was a new name, for all Anathemans would be known as Spaceticides from that day forward. New civilizations were found, invaded, conquered and ultimately controlled. The universe seemed to turn a blind eye to Craeton and freed him to do as he pleased without fear of consequence until enough time had passed and Craeton tested fate one too many times.
Starry Denunciation
Pioneering a voyage to a planet that knew no map or compass, concerned Craeton little. He had yet to encounter a resistance that offered a challenge of any sort and so his confidence silenced any concerns his better sense may have raised. Armed with Anathema's greatest warriors, Craeton landed on Pandora under the cover of night, filled with intentions of victory by sundown. Little did Craeton know that the battle he envisioned would not last half that. Pandora was home to a species that could rule the universe if they so desired.
Bearing the same name as their planet, the Pandoras were a race of pandas that knew no trade except for battle. Their days were spent training for times such as these, and their nights wasted, recanting all that had transpired hours earlier. The Pandoras, while aggressive by nature, rarely went in search of battle, for they were content to live as they were. Their size was what you would expect from a species with no equal, and their cunning ensured that they would not be easily fooled. Those who questioned such facts need only look to the fate of a species of pendgwyns, whose name has since been forfeited for their acts against the Pandoras. The pendgwyns dared to enter the realm where Pandora resided, filled with false bravery and foolish ambition. Within hours, the pendgwyns learned the error of their ways, and, from that time forward, have spent their time answering for their ignorance. Now, following in the nameless pendgwyns’ misguided footsteps, came the Spaceticides, who were equally as outnumbered. They had awakened an opponent as daunting as one could imagine from a species whose mere name filled even the bravest souls with fear.
The Spaceticides were still a considerable distance from the Boobam castle, yet their presence had long since been discovered and discussed. Never one to linger, the Pandoras' movements were swift and calculating and far too forceful for any Spaceticide weapon. The first wave of warriors vanished, engulfed in a thick layer of dust, their screams replaced with silence, as confusion dominated the air. Craeton watched in horror, as his considerable legions disappeared as if the planet was swallowing them whole. It was not until the wave of dust had further advanced that Craeton saw the Pandoras, in all their glory, displaying their extraordinary battle skills. Still in disbelief, Craeton struggled to grasp his grave misfortune, finally comprehending that this was a battle that could not be won. Not one to tempt fate a second time, Craeton retreated and took what warriors he could, blazing across the skies at a speed not safe for a ship of any kind. The Pandoras, offended and angered, were not the kind to simply let things settle where they may, and swore vengeance on Anathema and its people. Word was quick to spread across all four corners of the universe and Craeton soon understood all that he had done. A time would soon come when the Pandoras found Anathema and did to them what they had done to the pendgwyns. Opposition would be futile and only further anger the Pandoras, and so there remained but one hope, a return to their home, Kalos, a sanctuary from all that the Pandoras intended for who would expect the Spaceticides to return to a land that has banished them so long ago? And so, just as they had left all those years ago, the Spaceticides went in search of what was once theirs and what they hoped, would be theirs again.
Creating your Seedizen:
GalaXseeds features a robust character creation generator which allows a player to choose from loads of legs, arms, torsos and heads all of which can be further customized with over 16 million choices of colour, resulting in a unique and wacky avatar. The option to generate a random character is also available, letting the game compose an avatar for the player automatically.
Your Seedizen lives in a personal space called a Pod, part of the GalaXseeds Apodment complex. Pods open like clams to reveal the interior, splitting into two parts. The first part can be decorated and furnished with items bought from shops within the game worlds. The second half is a virtual garden where your Seedizen will grow their Plants. During Pod customization, you are able to choose from several designs and colours.
Experience & Levels:
As you play GalaXseeds, a player earns Experience Points (XP) by taking care of a certain plant to its fifth and final stage. Different plants can give you different amounts of XP. This XP is used to gain Levels of expertise. Leveling up will allow you to hold more amounts of various and different kinds of items. The higher a player’s Level is, the more they can see, get and do in the game. Once you are at a certain level, you can unlock special and secret places around the planets. Later on in the final version of the game players will be able to complete missions which will give them XP, seeds, and special items.
Currency:
The currency in GalaXseeds is called Botanickels. A player can earn Botanickels by selling Seeds and playing mini-games. Botanickels are required to purchase items from shops. Wealth also affects a player’s rank within their Clan. The wealthier a player is, the higher their ranking within their Clan. Like the other Big rip game, Skittilization, you can transfer this currency and your experience points between games.
Seeds & Planting:
Fame and fortune in GalaXseeds belongs to the best gardeners. To become such a botanist, a player must find and grow Plants within their virtual garden located in their Pod. Seedizens can buy Seeds at shops throughout the planets, or harvest the Seeds from a Plant they own which has matured.
After planting a Seed, Seedizens must take care for their Plants through a mini-game called Tuber Shooter so that they will grow. A Plant’s development varies depending on several factors such as the tools used and how well a player does in a mini-game designed to take care of their Plant. As the Plant matures, it will drop other Seeds which can then be planted or sold to earn Botanickels. If proper care is not given to a Plant, it will die and the Seedizen will have lost their opportunity to further profit from that particular Plant.
Every Seed has a stat card which shows the attributes of its parent Plant. Combining two Seeds of different parent Plants will create a new Plant which will take traits from both Seeds. Value of the matured Plant is determined by its uniqueness. To combine Seeds a gardener must be at least level 10, so it is important for players to gain Experience Points by planting Seeds so that they can Level Up their Seedizen.
Shops & Items:
There are four kinds of shops in GalaXseeds and many inventory items. While some items are useful such as tools for gardening, others are merely for show. A player obtains items through shops in exchange for Botanickels. New items are added to the game on a regular basis. Items from each planet can vary. Usually, the varying item on each Planet is the most expensive Gear and Get-up, although different seeds have been rumoured. Each clan possesses a "Legendary Hat" to represent themselves. The hats are all unique and are costly comparing the prices to GalaXseeds standards.
A section for secret codes has been placed, most likely to gain seeds or items. The first newsletter for thebigrip has been confirmed and launched, and members got a code to reedeem a secret item that is placed into your character's inventory.
- Spittus - A rare item given away to only those members who beta tested Galaxseeds during the early stages. It is a reference to YTV's Sitekick. It shows Dr. Frantic holding his Sitekick, Kablooey while spitting water.
- Garden shops – Buy and sell Gizmos and Seeds. Gizmos are tools that aid a botanist in their gardening. Shovels, trimmers, watering cans and many more can be obtained, however some Gizmos can only be used by more experienced botanists.
- Gear shops – Buy and sell furniture and other items with which Seedizens can decorate and personalize their Pods. Chairs, tables, lava lamps and Fishariums are just few of the many Gears which can be bought.
- Get-ups shops – Buy and sell accessories and outfits called Get-Ups which are wearable by Seedizens to further customize and express themselves. These are simply aesthetic and grant Seedizens no special abilities.
- Workshops – Provide the service of painting items into different colours desired by the player. Allows the person to colour and paint their items to mix and match.
Chat:
When not tending to their gardens, Seedizens can interact with each other using a safe chat system, allowing them to work together or compete in missions, mini-games, and even visit Pods owned by other players.
Clans:
There are four Planets in the GalaXseeds system, each with its own Clan. Deciding which Clan to belong to is one of the first choices a player makes. So far the most populated planet is Strata, but Subterra is catching up in seedizens tremendously. It has surpassed every single planet combined with population growth rate and has made Subterran News Headlines in March 2007. Choosing a clan also effects how much money a user pays to teleplant.
- Therma – The Therma Clan lives on a hot, rocky red planet littered with vapour geysers and blistershoots. Plant life is hardy, and animal life is hungry! Watch out for low-flying flappuses and toe-nibbling slithms. Life is tough on Therma, but it's easier when you don't have any toes.
- Strata – The lifestyle on pleasure planet Strata is one of pure ease and enjoyment, whether it's relaxing on the beach at Strata Sands, or enjoying the night life at Club Strata. The tourist industry really boomed once astronomers discovered that Strata was doomed to crash into the sun some day soon. The Strata Clan is determined to enjoy their planet while it lasts.
- Luma – The Luma "planet" is technically a moon, which explains why everything there is softly lit and sleepy-feeling. Luma Clan members enjoy long, relaxing walks by the Glow Swamps, or hand-feeding the papayuses in the planet's famous Lumazu. While some people prefer a faster pace, Luma's Seedizens are happy to live out their lives in peace and comfort.
- Subterra – The rugged landscape of Subterra is home to huge cliffs, sharp drop-offs and some of the deadliest, most dramatic landscapes the galaxy has to offer. But these canyons and caverns do have a soft side; Subterra is brimming with beauty, from breathtaking waterfalls to colossal caves. The Subterra Clan demands adventure, and their home planet delivers.
Teleplanters:
Seedizens can teleplant to other planets if they have the correct number of Botanickels or more. Cost varies from each planet to planet. Strata being the most expensive. Teleplanting to different sections of the planet is free, and under special circumstances, travelling to others may be free as well.
Trading:
You can trade your items with other members around the planets, a fair-meter will be shown so you know if you are going to get ripped off or not. If both members accept for a trade of the items, the trade is made and you are swapped items. Trading your Botanickels cannot be done.
Missions:
Missions are a feature that had been talked about since the beginning of the game, but were not released until near the end of September, 2007. Missions are tasks that a player has the oppourtunity to complete. At the start of each mission, a set of instructions are given on the job needing completion. Many missions are scattered among the four planets, some quite obvious, a person standing in front of a shop, for example. Other missions are harder to find. Upon the completion of a mission, botanickles and/or experience points are earned.
Mini-Games:
Multiplayer and solo mini-games exist throughout the Planets and also come in the form of Clan missions which can only be completed when Seedizens work together. Team work is especially essential for Seedizens for protecting themselves from the evil Spaceticides who wish to destroy all Plant life.
- Fallin’ Pollen Solo (1 Player) – With game mechanics akin to the famous Bubble Blaster, the air is filling up with pollen and space gradually becomes limited. The player must use the spore-slinger to fire coloured pollen spores into the air grouping pollen in groups of three by colour, which causes them to vanish. The game is won when all spores have vanished.
- Fallin Pollen Duo (2 Players) – A competitive version of the single player Fallin’ Pollen game where two players compete to be first to clear all the pollen. Whenever one player zaps pores, new pollen is sent to the other player’s screen.
- Caterthrillar (2-4 Players) – A racing game with caterpillars through a garden course full of tight corners, bridges, narrow shortcuts and bonus leaves for extra points.
- Tuber Shooter (1 Player) – Pests of all kinds attempt to harm your Plant underground. The objective is to rotate your bulb through 360 degrees and blast the insects before they can do your Plant harm, while also collecting water droplets which aid the Plant’s health. The maximum health gained in one game is 30 HP. You can only be hit by insects 5 times.
- Worm Herder (2 Player) – Players compete to keep worms on their own side of the field by whacking them with a mallet or stealing them from their opponents garden by plucking them up with tweezers and dropping the worms over their own garden. The player with the most worms wins.
- Bouncing Buzzums (1 Player) - The minigame was added to Therma only, and was based on the drought that the claim is taking place on Therma because of the tremendous amount of heat and warmth there. The player has to grow plant spores in order to gain points.
- Hive n' Seek (Multiplayer) - This game is an advertisement for Honeycomb Cereal. The game is based on tagging other seedezins, and you earn points to the game if you survive long enough once the game is finished, or by "CRUNCHING" other seedezins. You can compete with many more people, but minumum number is 2 players. Prizes that also include exclusive ones are given out on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis depending on the player that holds the highest score in that specific area.
- Mars Mission (1 Player) - This game is an advertisement for Lego Mars Mission. The player explores around and digs crystals in order to cash them in for botanickels. Admission will be paid in botanickels as well, where you rent a vehicle to start the game. Battles between aliens are placed in the game and items can be found to help the player through their exploration time. Exclusive items are also awarded in this game where it is based on luck if you find them or not. This game has been removed as of October 15, 2007.
